FISP BENEFICIARIES BEGIN FERTILISER REDEMPTION

FISP BENEFICIARIES BEGIN FERTILISER REDEMPTION

Beneficiaries of the 2026/2027 Farm Input Subsidy Programme (FISP) have started redeeming fertiliser.

Speaking during the redemption exercise at Mkakaula Depot in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi, Anna Singo, a beneficiary from Masangano Farmers Organisation (FO), thanked the Government for ensuring timely fertiliser distribution.

She said receiving fertiliser in October would enable farmers to apply it at the right time, unlike in previous years when redemption sometimes took place after the rains had started.

“We thank the Government for the timely fertiliser distribution in October. In previous years, we redeemed fertiliser when the rains had already started,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Dennis Chafulumira, commended the redemption process, saying it had helped curb corruption by requiring farmers to deposit their contributions at the bank.

He also hailed government for using FO's saying the system had eliminated the involvement of vendors and corruption.

Chafulumira said early redemption would give farmers adequate time to prepare for the farming season, including preparing Mbeya organic fertiliser.

Ntchisi District Chief Agriculture Officer Sellina Malaga said the district had recorded a 98 percent fertiliser distribution rate, with supplies reaching all six selling points across the district.

The Ministry has also delivered fertiliser to hard-to- reach areas and districts receiving early rains and these include Chitipa, Nkhata Bay, Usisya, Likoma, Makanjira in Mangochi, Mulanje, Thyolo, Neno and Mchinji, where it is ready for collection by eligible beneficiaries.

A total of 1,221,862 farmers are targeted under this year's FISP. Each beneficiary is contributing K20,000 for a 50-kilogramme bag of fertiliser and K10,000 for a five-kilogramme bag of certified seed.

The 2026/27 FISP programme was launched on 24th September at Kalira School Ground in the Area of Traditional Authority Vuso Jere in Ntchisi District by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development Honourable Roza Fatch Mbilizi.
